Internet Connection

Once your screen is mounted to the wall or a stand, plug in the power cable and turn on the screen. After the screen boots up and the Digital Signage app (blue background) loads your can connect your screen to the internet via Wifi or Ethernet. This video goes through the wifi connection steps.

If you would like to connect your screen to a hardwired ethernet connection just choose LAN on the Work Mode menu as shown in the video.

Resolution and Orientation

Let's get started with identifying the correct screen resolution and orientation for your installation.

The orientation of your screen refers simply to which way round you have mounted your screen. It may be "landscape/horizontal" like a TV screen at home or it may be "portrait/vertical".

Screen resolution is a measurement of how many pixels (px) your screen can display horizontally and vertically. The majority of our Digital Signage range have a Full HD resolution:

If your screen is landscape the Full HD screen resolution will be 1920px x 1080px. If your screen is portrait the Full HD screen resolution will be 1080px x 1920px

It's important to know which screen resolution you require so you can start preparing your content in the correct size.

If you are using a graphic designer to create your content please make sure they provide your finished content in the correct resolution for your screen.

Designing Content

You can:

  • Outsource the job to a 3rd party professional graphics designer
  • Use our design team at Impact Digital Signage
  • Create your own content

We will cover a few of the options on creating your own content:

You can create your own templates in My Signage Portal (covered in the Creating Templates Lesson) or alternatively you can design your content in a 3rd party application or graphic design platform. Most of the 3rd party options have extensive stock photos, videos and templates to use.

There are many free and paid options you can use to create professional looking designs. As a few examples, check out:

Canva, Visme, Adobe Spark, Design Wizard, Easil, Snappa, Crello, Stencil & PicMonkey

With each option make sure you use the correct resolutions and orientation for your screen and export the final designs in the correct format. (Both covered in later lessons)

The major benefit of creating your own design is being able to quickly and easily make changes without paying for a designers time.

We are big fans of Canva and this is great starting point for creating engaging digital signage content.

Recommended Formats

Before you upload any files to your My Signage Portal account please ensure the content is saved in the correct file type. As a summary, the recommended file types are:

Video : MP4 or AVI files

Images: JPEG or PNG

For detailed information such as codecs, bitrates and frame rates please click here.

Upload Media Content

In this step we will upload an image and video to our demo My Signage Portal account.

Both files are 1080px x 1920px for a FullHD Screen installed in a Portrait orientation, the image is a formatted as a JPG file and the video is an MP4 file.

Publishing Content

In this step we will use the image and video previously uploaded to our account on MySignagePortal. I clicked Rapid on the home page to view the default system templates (There are Full HD and 4K templates to choose from) and I need the portrait 1080 x 1920 template required for my portrait screen. Once selected I added my image and video media to the playlist and published it to the one screen on the account.

If you have a Full HD screen you should choose the Portrait (1080x1920) or the Landscape (1920x1080) template.
